In 1938, a cartoonist by the name of Charles Addams started publishing one-panel cartoons in The New Yorker featuring a recurring spooky family. At the time, the characters were nameless. That was until the first-ever adaptation of the Addams Family. From 1964-1966, the family was presented in a live-action sitcom series, running for two seasons.
Collaborating with the show creators, Charles Adams created names for the characters that we all know and love today; husband and wife Morticia and Gomez Addams, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Gomez’s brother Fester, grandmama, and Lurch the butler.
